A fresh independent gaming studio, led by veterans from the renowned “Doom” developer, has emerged with initial backing from Sisu Game Ventures.

Dubbed emptyvessel, this studio is poised to carve its niche in the gaming world with a primary focus on crafting AAA video games. Their debut project promises to be an immersive shooter, drawing inspiration from a blend of film, graphic novels, and gaming narratives set within dystopian sci-fi realms. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, this title aims to push boundaries in terms of both gameplay and visual fidelity.

Headquartered in Austin, emptyvessel is spearheaded by CEO and game director Emanuel Palalic, alongside COO and general manager Garrett Young, both esteemed alumni of id Software with rich experiences in titles like “Doom” and “Quake.” They’ve assembled a global team of developers, boasting backgrounds in blockbuster franchises such as “Call of Duty,” “Last of Us,” “Borderlands,” “Tomb Raider,” “Uncharted,” and “Callisto Protocol,” with team members collaborating remotely from around the world.

The ethos of emptyvessel revolves around being a “developer-founded, developer-first studio,” aiming to deviate from conventional business models and instead foster a collaborative environment driven by creativity and passion. Their vision is anchored in the belief that by prioritizing their strengths and working towards a unified goal, they can deliver AAA-quality experiences with lean, focused teams. The studio is keen on attracting top-tier talent to create high-quality IPs with manageable scopes, ensuring a conducive environment for developers to thrive.

Emanuel Palalic shared his aspirations, stating, “Many of us in the game development realm embarked on this journey fueled by the dream of realizing our creative visions. By harnessing our strengths and staying true to our vision, we are confident in our ability to produce AAA-quality games with nimble, dedicated teams. Our goal is to champion the individuals who pour their hearts into crafting these immersive worlds and reshape the narrative around game development.” Garrett Young echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the studio’s commitment to a Developer-First approach, recognizing that innovation in the industry has historically stemmed from developers taking bold risks.

With emptyvessel, the gaming landscape is set for an infusion of fresh perspectives and inventive gameplay experiences. The teaser video below offers a glimpse into the studio’s exciting journey ahead.
