Nintendo recently called off a series of public events in Tokyo due to safety concerns.

A person suspected of making threats that forced Nintendo to cancel Nintendo Live 2024 events has been arrested by Japanese police. The suspect is reportedly a man in his twenties who works for the local government in Ibaraki Prefecture. He allegedly sent multiple death threats through Nintendo’s official website last year, but the reason behind the threats is still unknown.

Nintendo decided to cancel the events in December because they were worried about the safety of their customers. Threats had been made not only against Nintendo employees but also against people attending the events and the staff working there. As a result, the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals and Nintendo Live 2024 events were called off.

These events were supposed to happen in December and January in Tokyo. Now, instead of being at Nintendo Live 2024, the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024 will take place this month.
